What is Hawaii Part Samarinda?
Hawaii Part Samarinda is a phone reparation store that offers reparations for damaged smartphones of varying types. Based in Samarinda since 2008, Hawaii Part also sells a collection of phone spare parts for phone technicians and people who need spare parts.
Over the years, Hawaii Part has become a trusted local vendor and phone reparation service in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, and has been awarded numerous times for excellent service and quality goods.
Background
What's the problem?
Since its founding, Hawaii Part has not had its own brand image. Like a lot of local, old-school self-founded reparation stores in Samarinda, for a long time it has always depended on word of mouth to reach potential new customers and increase revenue. However as time goes by, giving way to the rise of social media, a lot of these stores has started to gain more traction by promoting their services on different platforms.
Hawaii Part needed to develop its own company branding in order to convince newcomers and attract them by leaving a memorable and high-quality service, in which excellent design is a huge part of as well.
As this is a family-owned business, I was determined to help boost sales and engagement by applying my skills in Graphic Design and help my business get the attention it needs.
So, the goal is...
To create a company branding strategy for Hawaii Part, and build an online following
by establishing a strong social media presence, to improve sales and engagement.
Workflow
Design Process
For the longest time, a vital part of branding that was missing from Hawaii Part's repertoire is its company logo. We all know the significance of a logo: a symbol that people use to identify and associate certain brands with. A well designed logo can leave a lasting impression, that's why I was set on designing the logo first as a foundation, well before anything else.
Above is a few of my prototype designs for the logo. At first I really had no idea how to design the logo, since there was no strong concept in mind that I wanted to convey. I started by doing old-fashioned, too on-the-nose designs as the audience for this company is mostly middle-aged men.
I was in a pinch. The company head, my father, was getting restless and wanted me to start spreading advertisements without having the logo done. I refused as the logo is a very important pillar of the brand image, so I had to quickly think up of ideas, concepts, messages. Some of those included 'sun', 'stars', 'light', 'top', 'highest', until I eventually landed on a relatively simple thought: 'one'.

I'd finally got it. I need the logo for this company to show that out of all the other reparation stores in my town, we're the one with the most superb and engaging service. We give the highest priority into serving our customers well and giving them what they need to fix up their devices. I've got to show them that this logo means that my business is standing at the top, offering high-quality goods and reparation services.

After that realization, I challenged myself to incorporate the number 1 in the next logo designs. No matter what, I wanted my logo to mimic the shape of the number and remind customers that my business is the best. The main colors, red and yellow were requested by my father as both colors are bold and vibrant, perfect for a striking logo. Eventually after many discussions and contemplating, we decided to go with the circled logo as it looks like the initials of the business, while having negative space form the number 1.
Here's a look at the finished logo, with separate versions depending on the background. In the end, I decided to also make the number 1 a small part of the logotype as to be more consistent with the theme.
Now that the logo is finished, the rest of the designs will follow easily.

Here are some of my selected designs of Hawaii Part's Instagram Feed and Story posts. The design style direction I went in for the company is modern, bold eye catching typeface decorated with fun design elements like gradients, grids, halftones, geometric shapes. The main color palette is reds, oranges, yellows, and whites.
The following are designs of some informational posters that is currently on display at the actual store.
